Bruichladdich / Diaspora Valinch / Whisky 2009 / 50cl
Val'inch, To let down, drink up, A tube for drawing liquors from a cask by the bunghole. Also called a barrel thief
Valinch is an old whisky term, derived from French for a pipette used for drawing cask samples.
Diaspora, a dispersion of people belonging to one nation, the word could only have been created for the people of Scotland who for whatever reason were forced to leave their native land. The history books clearly show that their infusion into a society benefitted that society be it as explorers, engineers, doctors, scholars, settlers or simple crofters they brought a culture that could withstand whatever storms became them, like the seeds of the thistle scattered in many countries they survived the harshest conditions, their pride and stubborness being their greatest asset. Wherever you go you will find them and the talk is still of their homeland, 'Scotland' undiluted by time or place.
The Bruichladdich Valinch bottling is only available to visitors to The Bruichladdich Distillery.
Hand-drawn from the cask at full strength using an antique copper valinch, each bottle is labelled and signed at the time of the visit.
