This is a classic recipe, old school, from the days when every country winemakers' aspiration was to make wine that tasted like grapes.
Nowadays grape winemakers want their wine to tast of redcurrants and raspberries.
Oh cheery me.
The fairly anonymous redcurrant is in there to intercept and disguise the flamboyant raspberry.
The early purpose of the programme was to bamboozle the punter into thinking he was enjoying some delicious rose from the continent.
