Restaurant

ImageOur spacious self-service restaurant has become an attraction in its own right and features in numerous guides. We use the freshest ingredients and try where possible and practical to source local ingredients. All of our beef, venison, and fish are of the finest Scottish quality available.

Since starting up our first coffee shop in the late 1960s we have followed the same formula of healthy foods, served in good portions. We do not serve fried foods, and even the croutons that we give you to put in your soup are baked in the oven! Everything is prepared on the premises, from sandwiches, salads, soups through to our savoury pastries and our famous home baking!

Our reputation over the years has always been for producing fantastic, filling soups and for most of the season, you will have a variety of 5 to choose from at any time. Our best seller through the years has proved to be our Cullen Skink - the finest Mallaig peat smoked Haddock, with onions, tatties, fish stock and cream. To say that people cannot get enough of it is an understatement. On one busy day, we managed to sell 75 litres of this fabulous soup.

Soups are also available to take away - these are freshly frozen and can be purchased from Goodies & Gifts and The Snack Stop Cafe to take home with you.

ImageMain meal items produced in the main kitchens are hearty affairs. We always have a selection of traditional Scottish dishes on offer, as well as the internationally recognised Lasagne and macaroni. Pasta dishes do feature on our all day menu - these are so popular with the customers who have been hill walking, cycling or whatever healthy pursuit they have been doing!

Always trying to improve quick-to-eat, snack items, you don't want to miss our range of home made pastries. These are a crispy delight! There is a vegetarian cheese and onion option, and the meat pastries vary daily between Steak, Haggis and Steak Mince. Enjoy these in the restaurant, or purchase them at the Snack Stop! A cracking meal deal is available here - a pastry and a soup to take away and enjoy! Ask a member of staff for details!

Our home baking continues going from strength to strength - once again, all of our baking is available for you to take home - The Snack Stop and the Filling Station have baking selections and we highly recommend our Fruit, Banana and Date and Walnut loaves - these are all baked fresh for you. So many customers over the years admit to taking the loaves home, whipping the wrapping off, feeding them to their friends and pretending to have baked them, themselves!! (Why not!) They can be taken home and put in your freezer for those emergency moments!

We have 3 full time bakers who can normally be seen from the till area of the restaurant, under a mound of flour, up to their elbows in sultanas or plastered in chocolate! The mixers and ovens in this department have to work very hard indeed!

Eatsafe

Image'The main aim of the scheme is to provide an incentive to caterers to strive for food hygiene and food safety management standards beyond those required by law. It will also help consumers make informed choices about where to eat out by providing a recognisable 'sign' of excellence in standards of food hygiene.
Eligible establishments are assessed for the award as part of scheduled food hygiene inspections carried out by EHD and the issuing and control of the Eat Safe award certificates is handled by local authorities.'

Eat Safe is awarded to businesses that set up and maintain efficient and effective food safety management systems which are used daily, constantly monitored and reviewed. We are lucky here at The Green Welly Stop to be able to train our staff to Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland standards. Fiona Robertson - one of the business partners is qualified in a Diploma in Advanced Food Hygiene, and Advanced HACCP (Food Safety Management)
